Krishna Patasar
Krishna Patasar was born in La Romaine, South Trinidad, to Harry and Sumintra Patasar, into a family steeped in rich musical tradition. Raised among generations of accomplished musicians, his innate rhythm and musical ability became evident at an early age.
His affinity for the Dholak was first noticed by his uncle, the late Latchmi Patasar, with whom Krishna began accompanying Bhajans and Kirtans at the La Romaine Mandir, together with his father, Shri Harry Patasar. These early devotional performances played a significant role in shaping his musical discipline and spiritual connection to music.
With encouragement from his uncle, the renowned Trinidad & Tobago Sitar Maestro Mungal Patasar, Krishna pursued formal training at Bharatiya Vidya Sansthaan (BVS), where he continued his dedicated study of the Tabla, establishing a solid rhythmic foundation. His musical understanding was further enriched during a period of study under the legendary Pt. Vishwanath Mishra of India, from whom he gained invaluable classical insight.
As his skill matured, Krishna performed on notable stages, accompanying his uncle, the legendary Amarnath Patasar (Mandolin instrumental), on the Tabla at the Grand Finals of Mastana Bahar, where they achieved second place. On another occasion at the same prestigious competition, he accompanied Shri Mungal Patasar (Sitar instrumental), whose first-place victory was met with great acclaim and admiration.
Krishna later migrated to Boston, USA, continuing his musical pursuits and accompanying several distinguished artistes, including Kamran Hassan and Asif Mehdi Hassan, sons of Ustad Mehdi Hassan, as well as the celebrated Indian pianist Brian Silas.
Now living in Canada, Krishna Patasar continues to offer his music with humility and devotion. With rhythm flowing effortlessly through him, his Tabla speaks gently yet powerfully, touching the hearts of audiences wherever he plays.
