
Amarnath Patasar
Born in La Fortune, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, Amarnath Patasar stands as one of the Caribbean’s most distinguished mandolin players and musicians. Hailing from a revered lineage of musical talent, including being the younger brother of the renowned sitar virtuoso Mungal Patasar and renowned Bhajan singers Harry Patasar and Latchmi Patasar, Amarnath’s profound connection to music was evident from an early age, blossoming into a remarkable career.
His early journey saw him captivating audiences with the Naya Andaz Indian Orchestra of Cedar Hill, Princess Town. His burgeoning skill was highlighted by a commendable 2nd place finish in the fiercely contested Grand Final of the Popular Mastana Bahar Contest. Amarnath’s mandolin became an indispensable voice, making him a sought-after accompanist for countless artistes on Trinidad’s Classical Top 10 recordings and alongside numerous local luminaries. His creative genius extended to composition and direction; in 1976, he notably crafted the music for a significant recording with Pandit Chidanand Sharma from Guyana. He also led the popular Nai Jawan Indian Orchestra from Debe, South Trinidad, further cementing his influential presence in the music scene.
Amarnath’s musical odyssey transcends borders, marked by successful tours across Guyana, Jamaica, Canada, and the USA. He has shared the stage with a constellation of international artistes, including revered figures like Hari Om Sharan, Narendra Chanchal, and Kuldip Deepak, consistently leaving audiences spellbound with his soulful interpretations.
Now based in Canada, Amarnath continues his dynamic musical pursuits, frequently performing alongside his wife, Manisha, a renowned singer from India. Their joint performances at various functions and events blend tradition and artistry, with Amarnath showcasing his versatility on harmonium, mandolin, and guitar. This extraordinary musician remains a vibrant force, consistently delivering performances that are both technically brilliant and deeply moving.
