Dhanraj Singh
One of Trinidad’s most beloved and popular singers, Dhanraj Singh, was born in Rancho Quemado, Erin, to Ramdeen and Samdaye Singh. His deep, inherent passion for music was ignited by his father, an ardent music lover who fostered a rich musical environment at home. Immersed in the golden voices of legends like Mohd. Rafi and Hemant Kumar on the gramophone, Dhanraj developed a heartfelt and profound connection to music, marking the true genesis of his extraordinary career.
His exceptional and undeniable talent was swiftly recognized when Yacoob Mohammed from Princess Town introduced him to the renowned Mohammed family’s “Indian Talent on Parade.” This pivotal moment propelled his captivating songs onto the national airwaves, quickly bringing him widespread fame and adoration. Dhanraj dedicated a decade as a cherished member of the Naya Tarana Orchestra, under the skilled leadership of Mr. Yacoob Mohammed. He then seamlessly transitioned to become a lead vocalist for the immensely popular Acme Dil E Nadan Orchestra, led by Mr. Ramnarine (Tole) Moonial, gracing stages alongside his dear uncle, the very talented Paul Sookhai.
Dhanraj’s vocal prowess was consistently celebrated and evident through his numerous accolades. He proved himself a Grand Finalist on two occasions on the ever-popular Mastana Bahar contest, a testament to his enduring appeal and skill. Further cementing his place among the elite, he showcased his exceptional talent by placing 2nd in the highly competitive Mohd. Rafi Arzoo Singing Competition, standing out among many gifted singers from Trinidad and Tobago. His artistry resonated far beyond local shores; he undertook a series of highly successful international tours to Suriname, Guyana, Canada, and Holland, performing with the BWIA Indian Orchestra, Naya Tarana Orchestra and the Acme Dil E Nadan Orchestra, consistently leaving audiences awestruck and deeply moved wherever he performed. Even in his later years, Dhanraj continued to share his divine gift, inspiring audiences by visiting various Mandirs and singing sacred praises to God. The great artiste sadly passed on April 7, 2025, leaving behind an indelible mark and a truly profound musical legacy that will resonate for generations (Copyright Nisha Sharma 2025).
