The talents of the very gifted and graceful vocalist Shakuntala Jangbahadoor are widely recognized throughout the Caribbean and North America. The beloved daughter of Dinanath Jangbahadoor and Popatie Dinanath, she was born and raised in Penal, South Trinidad, a community with a rich cultural and devotional heritage. Shakuntala is also a proud and loving daughter of Penal, a community that has long nurtured her deep appreciation for music, spirituality, and cultural expression. Her melodious and haunting voice reflects a lifetime dedicated to the pursuit of musical excellence and spiritual expression. Her journey toward artistic refinement later led her to India’s renowned Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, where she received six years of formal professional training. During this time, she studied alongside some of India’s finest musicians while cultivating and perfecting a style that remained distinctly her own.
