Narad Maharaj

Popular Bhajan singer Narad Maharaj was born in San Fernando, Trinidad, to Brahma Deva and Mohanie Maharaj. From early childhood, music flowed naturally through his life. Surrounded by devotion and tradition, his family formed a Bhajan group in which young Narad began playing the harmonium and other instruments. Over time, his skill blossomed, and what began as simple accompaniment soon evolved into a calling.

As he matured, Narad developed a deep appreciation for classical and devotional singing, drawing inspiration from revered artistes such as Yusuff Khan, Haniff Mohammed and Jameer Hosein. Through his father, he was introduced to the legendary Hari Om Sharan. Listening intently and repeatedly to those soul-stirring Bhajans, Narad absorbed not only the melodies but the deep spiritual emotion behind them. So profound was his connection that for a time he desired to sing nothing else.

His repertoire later expanded to include the timeless works of Anup Jalota, the celebrated “Bhajan Samraat.” In what would become a crowning moment of his musical journey, Narad was blessed with the opportunity to render one of Anup Jalota’s own selections live before the maestro himself, an honour that affirmed both his talent and devotion.

Over the years, Narad Maharaj has performed extensively throughout Trinidad and Tobago, as well as in the United States and Canada. His voice, rich with feeling and reverence, has echoed through temples, Mandirs, and religious gatherings, where audiences often find themselves deeply moved by the sincerity of his devotion. Presently, his exceptional love for the Bhajans of Hari Om Sharan and Anup Jalota remains central to his offerings, and he continues to specialize in these sacred renditions.

Narad has shared the stage with many respected Pandits and accomplished artistes, including Pandit Mahase Maharaj, Pandit Sunil Basdeo, Pandit Naraindra Maharaj, Pandit Ramnarine Basdeo, Pandit Sharma Basdeo, Capil Gayadeen, Rana Mohip, Anil Maharaj, Nancoo Singh, Premchand Jagdeo, Sookdeo Jagdeo, Vishnu Rampersad, Dexter Raghunanan and numerous other distinguished devotional singers. Each collaboration further showcased his humility, discipline, and unwavering commitment to uplifting spiritual music.

What truly sets Narad Maharaj apart is not merely his vocal ability, but the Bhakti, the pure devotion, that radiates through every note he sings. His performances are not simply concerts; they are spiritual experiences that gently elevate the listener’s consciousness towards a divine state. A humble servant of God, Narad continues to grace countless occasions, glorifying the Lord’s name and touching hearts wherever he performs, firmly establishing himself as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most divine and beloved Bhajan singers.
