Rukminee Holass Beepath

Rukminee Holass Beepath was born on 22nd July 1952 in Granville, Cedros, Trinidad. She attended Granville R.C. School and later Point Fortin College before pursuing teacher training at Corinth Teachers’ Training College, where she obtained her Teacher’s Diploma. She further expanded her academic pursuits at The University of the West Indies, earning a Diploma in Drama Theatre Arts in Education. Rukminee dedicated an impressive 40 years to the teaching profession, shaping and inspiring generations of students. In addition to her formal qualifications, she is also certified in Hindi, Broadcasting, and Reiki.

Rukminee was born into a family deeply rooted in cultural and artistic tradition. She is the daughter of the iconic Harry Holass and the talented Samdaye Holass, both of whom served as powerful sources of inspiration throughout her life. She is also the sister of the legendary Budram Holass, widely respected for his contributions to Indian culture in Trinidad and Tobago. It was through the encouragement of her beloved brother Budram that Rukminee began her journey onto the stage. Her passion for music led her to receive vocal training at the Caribbean School of Indian Music under the esteemed guidance of Shri Mungal Patasar. Over the years she has developed a distinctive style that reflects deep devotion to traditional Indian music and culture. Rukminee later formed her own musical group known as Sangeet Milan, through which she performs at weddings, Barahee ceremonies, birthdays, Satsangs, and numerous Indian traditional celebrations across Trinidad and Tobago.

In 1978, Rukminee married her talented husband Adhar Beepath, who became a major musical support as well as the primary musician and arranger for her and her troupe. Together they have shared a musical partnership that has enriched many cultural and religious events. Beyond performance, Rukminee has made significant contributions as a cultural author and researcher. She has published several books that preserve and document traditional songs used in Hindu ceremonies and celebrations. Her publications include “Vivaaha Geet”, a collection of wedding songs; “Janma Geet”, songs commemorating birth; “Ganga Darshanam”, songs for Kartik Snaan; “Heartfelt Expressions”, a book of poetry; and her most recent work “140 Bhajans for Antyesthi Sanskaar”, dedicated to songs used during funeral rites. Many of these publications are accompanied by CD compilations, making it easier for individuals and groups to learn and preserve these sacred songs. Throughout her career, Rukminee has generously volunteered her time teaching these traditional compositions to Mandirs, community groups, and schools, helping many students achieve high placements in Baal Vikaas competitions through her original compositions and guidance. Her dedication to preserving and promoting Hindu culture has made her a highly respected cultural figure in Trinidad and Tobago. Over the years she has shared the stage with many distinguished artistes including Rana Mohip, Mungal Patasar, Rajkumar (Krishna) Persad, Baal and Lily John, Pandit Sunil Basdeo, Susan Mohip, Sagar Sookraj, Polly Sookraj, Michael Salickram, Kailash Kowlessar, Rajdai Sookraj, Lily Ramcharan, Rohan Boodoo and Sookdeo Jagdeo among many other renowned performers. Her lively, heartfelt, and expressive renditions of traditional songs consistently captivate audiences, often inspiring listeners to join in celebration through dance and joyful participation.

In recognition of her outstanding service to culture and education, Rukminee Holass Beepath was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (Gold) in 2023 by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. Today, she continues her research, teaching, and performances, making herself available for Satsangs, Weddings, Barahee ceremonies, and other traditional functions, while remaining devoted to the preservation and transmission of Indian cultural music and traditions.
