Sally Edwards hails from St. Augustine, Trinidad. She started singing in morning devotion at primary school level, which was just the beginning of a long musical journey. As her glorious career got off to a flying start, she sang with many bands including Naya Aakash, Triveni, Naya Zamana, T & TEC Gayatones, D. Rampersad and BWIA National Indian Orchestra. She toured throughout North America, U.K. and the Caribbean. Her husband Zaid, whom she married in 1987, was extremely supportive of her singing career. Sally entered the popular Mastana Bahar Competition in 1988, in which she won the 1st prize as well as the People's Choice Award. A year later she scooped up 1st place as well in the National Ladies Singing Competition. Sally won many awards as a top female vocalist, including the Nafita Award for 2 years as female vocalist, Indo Caribbean Music Award, The Sunshine Award (N.Y), 90.5 Radio Station Award, NGO for the Advancement of Women and the Trinidad and Tobago Chaconia Silver Medal - by President Noor Hassanali. She was the mother of 5 beautiful children, her greatest achievement. On Friday 1st April, 2011 this icon left us way too soon leaving her adoring fans in shock, bringing her glorious career to an abrupt end. (Copyright Nisha Sharma 2023).
