Kailash Kowlessar was the grandson of the late Sidhoo Jagan, the great Indian Sculpturer and Artist of Ramai Trace, Debe. Kailash was born on Feb 6, 1954 to Lilawati Kowlessar and Kowlessar Boodoo at Ramai Trace Debe, Trinidad W.I. His singing career started as a member of the Pt. Rampersad Tiwari Ramayan Group at the age of 26. In 1996 he sang his most famous rendition "Suna Suna Lage," to the delight of his fans at the Grand Finals of the ever popular Mastana Bahar captivating the 1st prize. He also sang in many Mohd. Rafi Competitions, fascinating his audiences with his riveting performances winning the 1st prize on 2 occasions. Kailash sang with a number of popular bands including Dil-E-Nadan, BWIA National Indian Orchestra, Gayatones, Triveni and Echo Sounds. He had a series of successful tours to Canada, USA, Suriname and Guyana. On Oct. 15, 1999 Kailash Kowlessar was taken from us way too soon leaving his fans in a state of shock at his early demise. He has left behind his wife Tara and 5 lovely children, Veera, Rupa, Shanta, Videsh and Anushka. Videsh seems to be following in his father's footsteps as a singer. Kailash was dubbed the Mohd. Rafi of Trinidad and Tobago, his ever powerful voice will resonate in our minds and hearts forever.
