Asha Bhosle
Born on September 8, 1933, to the great Indian actor Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shrimati Shevanti Mangeshkar. Asha Bhosle Mangeshkar is a multifaceted Indian luminary, renowned as a playback singer, entrepreneur, actress, and television personality. Her work primarily centers on Indian cinema, where she’s celebrated as one of Hindi cinema’s most influential and greatest singers, a testament to her extraordinary versatility.
Spanning over eight decades, Bhosle’s monumental career includes recording songs for films and albums across more than 20 Indian and foreign languages. Her diverse repertoire beautifully encompasses film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, traditional Indian classical music, folk songs, qawwalis, and Rabindra Sangeet.
Her immense talent has garnered numerous accolades. She’s receivedtwo National Film Awards, a remarkable seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer (a record), and a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, alongside two Grammy nominations. India has honored her with its highest cinematic award, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2000), and the nation’s second-highest civilian honor, the Padma Vibhushan (2008).
Beyond her vocal prowess, Asha Bhosle is sister to the legendary Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar and the renowned Hridaynath Mangeshkar & the ever-popular Usha Mangeshkar. She has also ventured into acting, making a critically acclaimed debut in the 2013 film Mai. She has graced the shores of Trinidad and Tobago in the year 2007 much to the delight of thousands of her adoring fans in this corner of the globe, captivating her audience with some of her most popular renditions. Some of her most popular and well-loved selections include Dum Maro Dum, Tora Man Darpan, Rangeela Re, Jhumka Gira Re just to name a few amongst the thousands she sang. Asha Bhosle remains an enduring symbol of musical excellence and innovation, most loved for her unique styling, leaving an indelible mark on the global cultural landscape.
We at Hindisongstt mourn the passing of Asha Bhosle on 12th April, 2026, a legendary voice who defined Indian music for generations. Her vibrant, versatile singing brought joy, longing and comfort to millions across the country. For over six decades she shaped film, classical and popular songs with effortless grace.
