Taran Persad – The Man with the Golden Voice

The legendary Taran Persad, widely known as “The Man with the Golden Voice,” was one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most beloved Indian vocalists of his era. He was born on Waterloo Road in Carapichaima, Trinidad, West Indies, and from a very early age displayed an extraordinary passion for music.

Deeply inspired by the legendary Indian playback singer and actor Kundan Lal Saigal, Taran Persad developed a style that reflected the rich emotion and classical influence of the golden age of Indian film music. His remarkable singing ability became evident at the tender age of ten, when he began performing publicly and quickly gained recognition for his sweet, expressive voice.

As his talent blossomed, Taran Persad became associated with the renowned Naya Zamana Indian Orchestra, under the leadership of the distinguished musician Nazeer Mohammed. Under this mentorship he received valuable musical training and stage experience, further refining his vocal artistry and performance style.

Throughout his career, Taran Persad achieved notable success in many Indian singing competitions in Trinidad and Tobago, and also while touring neighboring countries such as Suriname and Guyana. His performances were always warmly received, and he quickly became a household name among lovers of Indian music throughout the Caribbean.

Over the years, this celebrated artiste produced many memorable recordings, often described as golden classics, which continue to be cherished by listeners to this day. His rich and melodious voice carried a warmth and sincerity that captivated audiences wherever he performed.

Taran Persad also had the honor of sharing the stage with many distinguished artistes of the region, including Nazeer Mohammed, Mayodeen Ackbarali, Narsaloo Ramaya, Isaac Yankaran, Henry Tooloom Dindial, Champa Devi, Maestro Harry Mahabir, Rajkumar Krishna Persad, and the famous King Ratiram, among many other remarkable performers who helped shape the rich tradition of Indian music in the Caribbean.
