Ustad Haniff Mohammed was born in 1933 in Fyzabad, Trinidad West Indies to Isahac & Kariman Mohammed. He started his classical singing career at the age of 27. In 1961, at the age of 28 he sang at a farewell where he first met the Late Pandit Mahase Maharaj who within days became his Guru. He received extensive training under Pt. Mahase who also composed most of the songs he sang. Over 400 songs in total were composed by Pt. Mahase for him. Ustad Haniff entered his first Major Competition at Penal Vedic School where he came 1st going up against singers like the late K.B. Singh, Henry Tooloom Dindial and many others. He shared many a stage with the late Ramdhanie Shamma, Isaac Yankaran, James Ramsewak and Yusuff Khan to name a few. An Exhibition was produced by the late Moean Mohammed at the Globe Cinema in Port Of Spain on August 2nd, 1967, featuring Haniff Mohammed and the Late Isaac Yankaran. At this event they both sang 20 songs each. Ustad Haniff Mohammed has produced many Recordings over the years, featuring songs like Dhobiya Jala Me Marata Piyasa, Khele Shiv Shankar Kajariya, Rajender Jheem Jheem Jhoom, Rukh Say Na Khaab and many more inspirational selections. He has performed on many a stage abroad, and to date he continues to entertain us locally.
