Michael Salickram

To see his productions is to experience an epiphany of varied emotions. To retell Michael Salickram's history with dance is to tell his life's story. He has taught generations of children in Trinidad the art of expression through dance. He has performed internationally, for dignitaries, charitable foundations, and adoring fans. He has helped to shape and transform the culture of dance throughout Trinidad and Tobago with each show a reflection of the diversity of the islands. His art shows influences of Bhangra, Bollywood, Traditional Indian, African, Folk and Traditional Caribbean motion and movements. Michael has danced for as long as he can recall, choreographing his first performance at the age of 9. His passion became his profession when he partnered with Sandra Mathura beginning at the age of 16. In 1987, he sought to share his gift of dance with others and formed the Shiv Shakti Dance Company. For more than 20 years, the dance company has brought the world of dance to countless individuals, now operating in 8 locations throughout Trinidad. "I have been fortunate to make my way in life expressing myself via dance. My love of dance and beauty is poured into every project I work on and into every pupil that I teach. Choreographer of CHOGAM in 2009 in the presence of the Queen of England. 2007 : Major accomplishment to date is making his debut into the Bollywood film Industry, the biggest movie industry in the world. He was chosen as a choreographer to work alongside some of the top choreographers in the industry for the movie, "DULHAN MIL GAYA." The pinnacle in his career was this said accomplishment.
