Mayodeen Ackbarali a very versatile and talented singer, was born on May 13, 1940 in Freeport, Trinidad, West Indies. From a very young age he would listen to the radio and he had a deep yearning to learn these songs and be a great singer one day. He was a great imitator of Mohd. Rafi. His favourite song was "Lo Khoon Se Khoon Juda Hua," from the movie "Main Nashe Mein Hoon" from the year 1959. Mayodeen was a grand finalist in the Mastana Bahar Programme where he placed 6th. He sang with many of the leading Orchestras in Trinidad, including Naya Zamana Orchestra, BWIA National Indian Orchestra and the Naya Aakash Orchestra. He toured with the BWIA National Indian Orchestra, and performed at the Roy Thompson Hall in Canada, where his performance received rave reviews. Moean Mohammed featured Mayodeen Ackbarali quite regularly on his morning programme. The late Mayodeen Ackbarali departed this world on Dec. 28, 2007. He is gone but not forgotten by his many fans and admirers.
