Harold Boodoo, a master keyboard player who achieved national and international recognition was born at St. Johns Road in St. Augustine, started his musical journey at the age of 6, experimenting with a toy shaped like a pan flute and harmonium. While playing he picked other notes by air to try and play other songs. His father Simon Boodoo seeing his son's interest in music purchased a harmonium for him. He had a deep desire to master this instrument. Dean Maharaj the leader of the Jit Sitahai Melody Makers heard about this young man who was playing so well, he auditioned him at his home. With his parent's permission, Dean Maharaj recruited this young man to play in his band. From 1958 to 1980 Harold played with this band. He later went on to play with BWIA National Indian Orchestra, as a keyboardist from 1980 to 1987, where his raw talent received rave reviews. November 1987, he migrated to Canada. Harold performed to a packed audience at Roy Thompson Hall in Canada where BWIA National Indian Orchestra had a show. In his early years in Canada he was a member of the Sur Bahar Orchestra for approximately 10 years. After which he became a free lance musician accompanying many famous playback singers like Manna Dey, Ravindra Jain, Anup Jalota, Behroze Chatterjee, Anupma Desh Pande and Sharda just to name a few. Presently Harold Boodoo is the leader of EKTA Orchestra in Canada where he continues to enthral his audiences with his magical melodies.
